Divorce (and remarriage)

Mae tries to steer clear of controversial topics–not today, especially after seeing a discussion on this topic that was not backed by scripture and where a part of scripture was left out.  The Bible does not contradict itself. Scripture is to be interpreted in light of other scripture and one is not to add nor subtract from scripture. Starting with the book of Mark, 10th chapter, Jesus was asked about divorce by the Pharisees who were trying to trap Him. During that time, there were two schools of thought on divorce. Jesus answered the Pharisees. (Mae knows this isn’t Bible study, so Mae will move on and Mae is aware that there are other scriptures addressing this topic). Matthew 19:9 also addresses the divorce/remarriage issue. Some don’t discuss or they leave out the part that says, “except for sexual immorallity.” It’s scripture. Please know that marriage is important and even if there’s an isolated case of adultery, try to make your marriage work. Moving on, Paul addressed the topic also. To nay sayers, in 1st Corinthians 7:12, when Paul stated, “I, not the Lord,” Paul was saying Jesus hadn’t addressed it while here on earth. IT IS STILL RELEVANT; IT IS SCRIPTURE. In paraphrased scriptures– (1st Corinthians, chapter 7) two believers are to stay married. God forbid if you separate, remain unmarried or get back together. Next, if an unbeliever wants to stay in the marriage with a believer, there is not to be a divorce. Final point, if a non believer leaves a believer and does not want to be with or come back to him/her– the believer can bid them farewell. Some will say you are not free to remarry. Mae’s study say you can remarry. This topic hits home with Mae. Mae is not against marriage; marriage was against Mae. Bottom line, try to make your marriage work. Whew!! This is Mae’s longest blog so far. Know that there are scriptures that address divorce/remarriage, so don’t just take Mae’s word; read the scriptures for yourself and ask the Spirit for clarity. May you know that Mae loves you, whether you agree or disagree with Mae.
